It doesn’t matter if you’re a first-time or a second-time mum; you’re always going to come up with the list of things a newborn baby needs before you deliver. 

If you walked down this road a year ago, you might remember some of the essentials for a newborn. Some of us have a large age gap between our kids, so every time we are about to give birth,  we have to prepare the baby items list. 

To make things easier, I have split the list of things a baby needs into categories depending on how and when they are used. These categories are:

Diapering isn’t all about diapers only.  Most first-time parents face it when it comes to changing diapers, but the good news is you get the hang of it after a few days. The diapering checklist involves other items like:

•  Diaper bag
•  Unscented wipes

• Diapers (you can have a combination of both disposable and cloth diapers)
• Changing table

I recommend you arm yourself with three boxes of disposable diapers and about six dozen cloth diapers. I’m sure you feel like that’s a lot for a newborn but let me tell you something, there’s nothing like overbuying diapers. These little ones use lots of diapers, and it’s better to have more than purchase less. 

Baby Bath Essentials

The bathing time is the most exciting thing about the parenting journey, especially when the child is still an infant. Watching your little one enjoy the warmth of the water gives you a spark of joy.

The only problem comes when handling the slippery baby. But this shouldn’t scare you because you learn how to handle your child better as you continue to care for them. 

The following are the baby bathing essentials:

• Baby shampoo and body wash
• Baby bathtub
• A cup to scoop water when bathing the baby
• Baby moisturizer
• Soft cloths
• Hooded baby towels
• Baby lotion 

Feeding Checklist

Feeding is the most important part of your parenting journey; you have to set your mind to feeding your baby around the clock. It doesn’t matter if you’re going to breastfeed exclusively or pump; you still need a lot of feeding items.

• Atleast eight bottles of -4 and -8 ounce
• A bottle brush

• Formula (in case you’re not nursing)

Shopping for other items in the checklist of newborn things might not be as fun as purchasing tiny clothes. However, you must be careful not to buy clothes too small because newborns outgrow clothes quickly. 

Don’t get carried away by the cuteness of the baby’s clothes, and buy tiny outfits for your baby. Mix the sizes so you won’t have to return to the shop for bigger clothes if your child is born bigger. 

While buying clothes for your baby, do not forget to purchase layers, especially if you’re living in a cold place most of the time.
